When writing a series of books, you run the risk of losing your readers in between volume releases. This can happen for two reasons:

  1. You fail to meet the core reader expectation for a series, or

  2. Your mid-series endings are not compelling enough.

The core expectation comes down to coherence. The overarching plot, characters and themes must hold together authentically and integrally, as if it were one great big book instead of three (or five, or ten). Let’s talk about how to keep your series coherent and strong.
