Hello all of my subscribers. I’m excited. Because my Kickstarter fully funded in 45 minutes!
In case you missed it, my alternative pen name, Ash Harrier, is running a Kickstarter campaign where people can order special edition copies of the Circle of Seven trilogy, all about students of a secretive academy with magical powers, up against powerful old societies, while falling in love all over the place. Oh, the yearning!
What’s a special edition? It’s a beautiful hard cover with with a fancy alternative foiled dustjacket, ribbon bookmark, sprayed edges and pretty endpapers!

But the big news is, in just 45 minutes from hitting GO, the campaign went from live to green-lit! It hit its initial $1000 goal and that means backers will get their exclusive, pretty, special edition books and other goodies, most likely by Christmas. We are now up to $4000 pledged and that means “stretch goals” are being unlocked, including custom endpapers and an adorable Sir Percival the bat sticker (if you know, you know).
I don’t want you to miss out, so I’m updating you here in my newsletter. The Kickstarter has been live for almost a week and has another couple of weeks to run, but if you’re considering pledging, I urge you to do it now. Here’s why:
If more people pledge now, Kickstarter sees the project as ‘hot’ and promotes it within the Kickstarter community. Then more people find it and pledge and that’s good for you because…
The more pledges, the more freebies get unlocked! Each time we hit a milestone, I add freebies to your gift (eg the sticker above). These are known as Stretch Goals. And…
The stretch goal at $6500 worth of pledges is amazing and I’ll cry if we don’t get to unlock it. Seriously.
But Ash, I hear you ask, what are you going to do with all that money? Trust me, the profit margin on this Kickstarter is razor thin! I’ll be lucky to come out of it with any profit at all. I’m doing this for love and most if not all of the money will go on the products and the shipping. Your pledge all comes back to you as bookish gifts.
How much should you pledge?
Here are the tiers you can select from (click to view in more detail). They range from $10 to $495 (although there’s only one left of the $495 Tier, thanks to the two goddesses who already grabbed the other two).

But what is a Kickstarter?
I understand! I only learned what Kickstarter was last year, myself. It is essentially a place where I offer cool book-related stuff and you can preorder it before it is manufactured. That way I know exactly how many to order. Sustainable and clever.
There's a minimum amount required to kick off the manufacturing process (the Kickstarter goal), and if we don't reach that amount, then the project won't proceed. If that happens, you keep your money and all stays just as it was. Sad and boring! (And irrelevant because we already hit that goal).
But when the project does hit its minimum goal and gets the green-light, then your card will be charged whatever you pledged, and your purchases will be on their way! Joyous and exciting!
What now?
It’s easy. Take a look at the Kickstarter website to see the lovely things you can get when you pledge. This is a no risk campaign — it’s definitely going ahead now because it reached it’s initial goal, so whatever you choose is what you’ll get. There’s also a 4-payment plan if you want one of the higher reward tiers.
